Pharmaceutical

Algeria is one the largest pharmaceutical market in North Africa and one of the leading pharmaceutical producers in the continent. The creation of the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry (MOPI) and the National Agency for Pharmaceutical Products (ANPP) provide the regulatory framework for the sector and boost local production of drugs and medical devices, while also promoting export. Algeria is particularly attractive for major international pharmaceutical groups that have established drug-manufacturing plants. In 2021, local drug production by pharmaceutical companies in Algeria amounted to the value of 2.5 billion euros. Therefore, Algeria presents itself as a juicy market for local or foreign pharmaceutical laboratories by positioning itself as a regional hub in the sector.
